 Medicaid Program Overview

Medicaid is a jointly funded health insurance program between the federal and state government for low-income families and persons with disabilities. In 1993, the School Based Services (SBS) component was added to Michigan’s Medicaid Program, which allows for reimbursement of some health services provided by the schools. Services that are eligible for reimbursement include:

  • Physical Therapy (PT)
  • Speech and Language Therapy (SL)
  • Psychology (PSY)
  • School Social Work (SSW)
  • Orientation and Mobility (O&M)
  • Transportation
  • Nursing
  • Case Management
  • Assistive Technology Device Services (AT)
