The CACC had another successful year in Regional and State Competitions!

The following Calhoun Area Career Center (CACC) students placed 1st through 6th in Michigan Region One SkillsUSA competitions. Students had to demonstrate their ability to perform job related tasks and skills in each of their competitive fields. Depending on the event, some winners will go on to compete at the State level which will be held in Lansing, MI, on April 16-18, 2010.

HOSA Results:
Forty-one Calhoun Area Career Center 21st Century Health Careers students, along with over 1,700 participants from HOSA Chapters throughout the State of Michigan, attended the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference on April14-17, 2010, held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City. HOSA is a "student organization whose mission is to promote career opportunities in health care and enhance delivery of quality healthcare to all people." HOSA Chapters are comprised of high schools, career centers, and post-secondary chapters.
During the conference, students competed in several health related competitions. Lauren Murray (Lakeview High School) placed first at the State in Researched Persuasive Speaking and will be competing at the National Level in Orlando, Florida, June 23 - 26, 2010.
The Medical Reading Team comprised of: Connie Collige (Pennfield High School); Bridgette Kipp (Lakeview High School); and Kia Norris (Union City High School) placed 8th in the State.

MITES Competition Results:
Calhoun Area Career Center (CACC) students from Automotive Service Technology, Graphic Communications Technology, and Welding Technology programs participated in the Michigan Industrial and Technology Education Society (MITES) State competition held May 5-8, 2010.
MITES, a professional organization of industrial career and technical educators, sponsors regional and state competitions for students. The competitions encourage excellence and the development of positive work ethics and habits, skill development, critical thinking, and problem solving.
Through MITES, students are encouraged to seek out careers in technology, skilled trades, manufacturing, and engineering.

Great Lakes Area Robofest
Calhoun Area Career Center (CACC) Robotics Club, comprised of students from the Computer Networking and Machining Technology programs, participated in the Great Lakes Area Robofest Competition held at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, April 24, 2010.
Timothy Fee, Albion High School, and Jonathan Timmer, Lakeview High School, took 4th place.
They competed at the World Robofest Championship on May 8th at Lawrence Technological University against approximately 30 other High School Teams throughout the world. Robofest is an annual autonomous robotics competition focusing on learning STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math) for students in grades 5 ~ 12. Robofest challenges teams to design, build, and program robots. This year's task was to build a robot that would find a "human" bottle among "debris" bottles and rescue it.
